Follow-Up on What People are Reading

Alexis Mainland over at the City Blog has posted a follow-up on the poll of what people are reading on the subway.  Everyone else is as surprised by Infinite Jest as I was, and the poor souls on the 1 are all reading The New Yorker.  With all those local stops, I vote it best line for Infinite Jest.

Twitter Feed

I’ve set up a Twitter feed for all those moments where I have a subway and/or book related thought that’s not quite post-worthy.  I’ll also keep my eye out for fun related tweets and articles to share with you, and please keep sending interesting stuff my way, like the Infinite Summer project posted in the comments to What People are Reading.  Thanks Jeff!

What People Are Reading

Results of the Times’ poll are in, and clearly I was wrong when I said Infinite Jest wasn’t good subway reading – it’s the second-highest votegetter.  Of course, Infinite Jest’s numbers are going to be inflated because it’s so long – the poll only asked for the last book read on the subway.  Everyone else has been through 3 books in the past month and the Infinite Jest folks are still plugging away…

Book Selection Update

I whipped through Blink in just two days (it was good, and also fairly short) and am on to Brothers: The Hidden History of the Kennedy Years.  I’ve been enjoying all the non-fiction lately, but this is also a Kennedy conspiracy theory book, so there’s a bit more drama than the average history.

The woman next to me on the R Train the other day was reading Infinite Jest, my favorite novel, but I have to say, not a great commuting book.  At about 1200 pages in paperback, it’s pretty rough on the shoulder to haul it around.
